Who should you call to hire a chimney sweep?
Every homeowner thinks about how to keep the family they cherish safe. A homeowner with a wood-burning fireplace has extra safety concerns, including carbon monoxide poisoning and home fires, to consider. The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) recommends having your chimney inspected and swept each year by a reputable Chimney Sweep. So who should you call to hire a chimney sweep?
First and foremost, be sure to use a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep. These professionals are held to high standards and must adhere to specific ethical guidelines in order to remain certified. But in addition to hiring a certified sweep, the CSIA also offers this advice in choosing the person to help protect your home:
Consider how long the Chimney Sweeping company has been in business. Consider the experience levels of the technicians and rely on their years of knowledge to help solve any potential problem as efficiently as possible.
Check the company’s references. Because yellow page ads and a website give the appearance of credibility, many will overlook this step. But it is important to talk to people who have done business with the company so you have clear expectations.
Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have bee registered, and if they have, how they were resolved.
Ask about the company’s liability insurance policy to protect your home and furnishings should something unforeseen happen while the work is being done.
Chim Chimney is a proud member of CSIA and the local Better Business Bureau. We want you to have every confidence in our experience and abilities, and encourage you to check us out.
